The Victorian government has announced thousands of workers in casual and insecure jobs will now be able to access five days of paid sick leave per year. This provides casual and contract workers with a guarantee they will receive paid leave when they need to take time off when they are sick or need to care for loved ones.
The plot scheme will be rolled out over the next two years and its suitability reevaluated after that.
Eligible occupations include:
- Hospitality workers
- Supermarket workers
- Supply chain workers
- Aged and disability care workers
- Cleaners and laundry workers
- Security guards
It will be up to the Employee to make the claim on their behalf. The claim is processed through the service Victoria website and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. There is a simple questionnaire that determines their eligibility for the scheme.
It can be found here https://service.vic.gov.au/services/sick-pay-guarantee/apply

- A pay slip which is no more than a month old
- A signed letter of offer
- A current employment contract saying they work for you
